The SSC said that eight thousand two‑hundred‑seventy‑four candidates had been shortlisted for the PET/PST after normalising the scores of the CBE, which ran from 4 to 20 February 2026 across more than a thousand centres. The same commission reported that a total of 8,04,633 candidates appeared for the examination out of 3,61,984 applications received. While the SSC’s official figure is 8,274, an earlier report from a news outlet listed 8,071 shortlisted candidates, indicating a discrepancy between the two sources.[1][2]

In the final cut‑off, candidates were selected for PET/PST on a 1:7 ratio against available vacancies, based on their normalised scores in Session II of the CBE. The commission released a category‑wise breakdown: EWS – 840, SC – 882, ST – 609, OBC – 1,659, UR – 3,136, ESM – 693, OH – 91, HH – 77, and other PwBD – 84. The UR figures include candidates from reserved categories who survived at the general cut‑off.[2]

Malpractice was flagged in the post‑exam audit. The SSC announced that 727 candidates had engaged in malpractice during the CBE, and their results were not processed. A further 169 candidates were debarred by regional offices for other reasons, and two more roll numbers were withheld pending further investigation of suspicious activity. Representations were allowed under the relevant examination notice.[2]

Candidates who pass the PET/PST will be considered for the Havaldar post in the final release. Those who do not qualify for the physical tests will still remain on the list for the MTS seats if independently shortlisted. The SSC will publish the PET/PST schedule and, after the physical tests, announce the First‑Round Tentative Allocation for both MTS and Havaldar positions at a later stage.[2]

Future Schedule and Allocation

The SSC has promised to release the PET/PST timetable on its official website once the list of candidates is published. The final beam of allocation for the vacancies will follow the completion of the physical tests, aligning with SSC’s standard hiring procedure.[2]
