The developing conflict raised the prospect of a more distant ceasefire as the two countries traded fire over the weekend, according to one report.

The UK proscribed Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation, with one report saying the move came after concerns about threats to life and intimidation on UK soil.

The France 24 review also notes coverage of Russian spies in Japan and a dog with an "emotional support duck."

Iran reported strikes on two of its southern islands and Kuwait said border posts and an offshore oil platform were attacked, as tensions widened after intense US strikes.

The attacks came after three days of tit-for-tat strikes between Iran and the US, as a June ceasefire deal frayed.

The UK, France and Germany said they had issued a statement on Iranian attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and countries in the region, according to a government notice.

The U.S. Treasury office also issued an Iran-related general license in its July 10 action.

Brent crude rose 4.7% to $79.59 a barrel and major Asian indexes fell after the new strikes amid tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s state broadcaster said the IRGC Navy ordered the temporary closure and warned vessels against using what it called an “illegal route,” while a separate report placed the move in the context of wider US-Iran conflict.
